Because New England had an exceptionally mild winter, gardeners everywhere are anxious to “Dig In and Get Dirty”.  Chores such as pruning and garden clean up can be done much earlier than usual. This will mean that gardeners will be ready to start planting before it is safe from frost. Our advice is to take it easy. Mother Nature has a way of slapping us down when we least expect it.

Our general rule of thumb is “If it’s outside at the garden center, it should be safe to plant. If we keep it in the greenhouse, it’s probably too tender to go out just yet”. There are always exceptions to our rule (never enough room in the greenhouse for all the Impatiens or tomatoes) so be sure to ask if you are unsure about how cold tolerant a plant might be. It's always better to be safe, rather than sorry later.
